Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board in North Wales is recruiting a Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry based in Ty Llewelyn Mental Health Unit, Bangor. The post leads psychiatric care for inpatients in medium secure services and oversees forensic duties across prisons and community teams.

The role requires UK-wide registration, a strong multi-disciplinary leadership record, and the ability to deliver high-quality teaching, research, and audit alongside clinical duties.

Qualifications

• Full GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT.
• S12 approval or eligible for approval.
• Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months.

Responsibilities

As part of our growth strategy, Betsi Cadwaladr University Local Health Board are currently looking to appoint a Consultant in Forensic Psychiatry based in Ty Llewelyn Mental Health Unit, Bangor.

Main duties of the job

This is a replacement post and is part of the continuing development of forensic services, allowing us to offer sustainable specialist forensic services for the population of North Wales. The post holder will be responsible for the overall psychiatric care of an inpatient population within the medium secure services. Together with colleagues in the multidisciplinary team, you will offer medical leadership, & assessment & management both for inpatients and for the wider responsibilities of the forensic service locally which includes prisons and community forensic mental health team.

Qualifications and Eligibility

Essential

• Full GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months of obtaining CCT from date of interview
• 12/2 Approval AC Approval (or eligible for approval)
• MRCPsych or equivalent approved by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
• Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
• Approved Clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.

Desirable

• Forensic CCT
• Post graduate Qualification or higher degree in medical education, clinical research or management
• Welsh AC Approval

• Evidence of training in the core and specialist competencies relevant for forensic psychiatry.
