Consultant in Emergency Medicine (Paediatric Emergency Medicine)

Successful applicants will work as partof a group of over 30 ED Consultants on a 24-week whole time equivalent rota toprovide senior medical staff on site presence 08:00-00:00 with weekend workingone in eight weekends.

The team works equally across 2 sites,with Pinderfields Hospital being our Major Emergency Department and designatedMajor Trauma Unit. Both Dewsbury and Pinderfields have 24/7 separate dedicatedchildrens EDs.

Main duties of the job

Providing high quality care to patients attending theEmergency Department

Ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment,treatment and clinical decision making supporting the sustained delivery of theEmergency Care Standard

Providing clinical leadership and supervision to otherclinicians working within the Emergency Dept.

Participating in the development of the Trusts EmergencyMedicine service including QIPS, protocols and guidelines

Developing and maintaining collaborative relationships withclinicians both internally and externally

Providing and delivering educational opportunities atundergraduate and postgraduate level

New consultant positions typically will take part in on-callduties which are currently shared within the team on a 24-week rolling rotawith 3:24 weekend working, category A basis

Administrative duties, for which appropriate office space,secretarial support, and networked computer facilities, are provided.

Supporting Professional Activities with at least a minimum of 1.5 SPA included in the core 10PA timetable(prorated). Additional SPA or DCC time may be commissioned in line with theskills of the successful candidate and changing requirements of the service,such as teaching, educational supervision or departmental leadership roles.

Job responsibilities

This post isoffered on a full time, 10 PA basis.

Experience
  • Specific educational interests and evidence of educational ideas or project work.
Qualifications
  • Medical Degree from recognised medical school
  • FRCEM
  • Recognised RCEM Paediatric Emergency Medicine subspecialty qualification
  • Awarded a CCT in Emergency Medicine or equivalent or within 6 months of entry to the GMC Specialist Register
  • Provider status in ATLS/ALS and APLS (or EPLS)
  • Royal College of Emergency Medicine Level 1 Ultrasound competency
  • Instructor status in any ATLS/ALS /APLS (or EPLS)
  • Dual accreditation in ITU/PHEM
Management Skills

  • Please state full GMC number
  • Full GMC Registration with licence to practise
