Join our team of dedicated Critical Care consultants in a replacement substantive post as we prepare to move into our new, state-of-the-art Critical Care Unit in Brighton.
We operate 39 Critical Care beds across Brighton and Haywards Heath within the United Hospitals Sussex NHS Foundation Trust.
We serve as the major trauma and regional tertiary centre covering Kent, Surrey, and Sussex, including neurosciences and cardiac surgery. Our department is also academic, with close links to our medical school and an active portfolio of local and international research studies.
We seek a dynamic, enthusiastic colleague to collaborate with our multidisciplinary team to continue delivering excellent care and outcomes, while also developing our services and processes.
Brighton and Haywards Heath benefit from their coastal locations and beautiful countryside, with the South Downs National Park nearby. We encourage candidates to take advantage of these wonderful opportunities.
The appointee will undertake on-call duties alongside a team of 18 other Consultants at both the Royal Sussex County Hospital and Princess Royal Hospital. This involves two 7-day 1:6 rotas at the Royal Sussex County Hospital and a 7-day 1:6 rota at the Princess Royal Hospital.
All rotas are dedicated solely to Critical Care and vary slightly between Consultants. On-call duties are shared among the three units, with activities aligned to daytime duties to ensure continuity of care, using a block system of Critical Care coverage. Additionally, there is a weekly daytime responsibility at the Royal Sussex County site, worked between ICU on-call commitments. Clinical input outside on-call and duty periods will be responsive to service needs and primarily at the Royal Sussex County Hospital.
Direct clinical care in a complementary specialty can be undertaken at either or both sites based on service needs. Relevant specialties include anaesthesia, critical care, medicine, and emergency medicine. The job plan requires one Supporting Programmed Activity to be conducted weekly within the Trust.
