Qualifications

Join Hampshire and Isle of Wight Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust as a Consultant in CAMHS - Ashurst Child and Family Centre.

We're offering a generous £30,000 welcome payment to eligible candidates appointed to this Consultant post - an exceptional opportunity to advance your career and make a real difference.

We're looking for a passionate Consultant in Child & Adolescent Mental Health to join our New Forest CAMHS team at Ashurst Child and Family Centre, Southampton. You'll lead clinical care and provide specialist support to young people across the region, working within a skilled multi-disciplinary team including CBT therapists, family therapists, and creative therapy practitioners.

Your role will focus on assessment, consultation, and treatment, alongside service development and mentoring junior doctors. With 10 Programmed Activities weekly, you'll have dedicated time for CPD, teaching, and quality improvement.

Main duties of the job

As a Consultant in Child & Adolescent Mental Health (CAMHS), you will provide clinical leadership and specialist care within a dedicated team, offering assessments, diagnosis, and evidence-based treatments for young people with complex mental health needs.

Key duties include managing a small caseload, conducting patient assessments, developing treatment plans, and providing clinical oversight and guidance to the team.

Qualifications
  • Relevant Higher Degree e.g., MD, PhD, MSc or other additional clinical qualifications
  • Full Registration with the General Medical Council
  • MRCPsych or recognised equivalent
  • Eligible for inclusion in the Specialist Register or within 6 months of CCT at time of interview
  • Approved under section 12(2) of the Mental Health Act 1983
  • To hold Approved Clinician status at the point of taking up post
Experience
  • Prior experience of general adult psychiatry
  • Prior experience of working with detained/Mental Health inpatients as senior trainee or consultant
  • Experience of audit and an understanding of the principles of clinical governance
  • Proven commitment to improving the quality of clinical care
  • Experience of crisis, inpatient or community mental health team care for Child and Adolescents
