Job description

I have been assigned by an NHS Trust in the UK to help them recruit a Consultant in Anaesthetics on either a Substantive or an NHS Fixed Term basis for 12 months.

Our client's Department of Anaesthesia provides support to:

• Obstetrics services
• Gynaecological surgery
• Peri-operative Care (4-5 bedded HDU)
• General and colorectal Surgery
• Orthopaedics
• Urology
• Robotic surgeries
• Pain management
• Sleep services

The department runs both Anaesthetic Review Clinics and a nationally-accredited Cardio Pulmonary Testing Service. It is actively supporting the development of the UHL Preoperative Assessment Service. The department is working towards ACSA accreditation, led by a recently appointed Consultant Anaesthetist.

The Anaesthetic group comprises 37 consultants at the main site providing cover for specialist lists, pre-operative assessment, and pain management. All consultants have flexible job plans. The department offers office space, managerial and secretarial support, and seminar rooms. There is a strong input into undergraduate and postgraduate training.

The successful appointee will be expected to undertake duties including:

• Providing a safe and efficient anaesthetic service for elective and emergency care, including preoperative assessment and postoperative care
• Providing cover for Level 2 peri-operative care out of hours
• Conducting high-risk anaesthesia outpatient clinics
• Participating in the general duties non-resident on-call rota and/or weekend resident rota
• Supporting the Consultant-delivered Perioperative Medicine Service
• Supervising and managing junior medical staff
• Opportunities to work at other sites supporting hepatobiliary, renal transplant, trauma, ENT, maxillofacial, cardiac, thoracic, paediatric, and imaging services
• Engaging in Clinical Governance and Audit duties
