Job description

The Trust seeks to appoint a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Neurosurgical Anaesthesia. This is a whole-time position, and the new appointee will share the caseload, facilities, and trainee grade support with the existing consultants. While the main focus is on Neurosurgical theatre requirements, there is potential for the successful candidate to utilize the flexible theatre rota to undertake Neuro IR theatre lists, including thrombectomy services, which can be further explored at interview.

The post is a whole-time position of 10 programmed activities (PAs), offering 8.5 PAs and 1.5 SPA.

The successful candidate will be expected to provide pre-operative assessment, anaesthesia, and follow-up. They will be expected to introduce and apply new techniques as appropriate and share in the general departmental workload, including cover for colleagues where practical.

Main duties of the job

The appointment is to the Trust, not specific hospitals. The appointee will share clinical responsibilities within the Department of Anaesthesia, including perioperative assessment. They will provide anaesthesia for adult patients across various specialties according to training and experience, develop a team with a strong emphasis on delivering a cross-site service, and work on each site as required.

The role involves adhering to a job plan reviewed annually and prospective on-call duties attracting 1.25 PAs with a 5% uplift due to a 1:10 frequency, including planned weekends for both adult and neonatal to teenage patients. The on-call rota is shared between two hospitals, with site coverage assigned on each date.
