A leading healthcare organization in Romford is seeking a Consultant Anaesthetist with a focus on Neurosurgical Anaesthesia. This whole-time position involves providing anaesthesia for various specialties, participating in clinical audits, and supporting departmental initiatives. The successful candidate will work across multiple sites and contribute to the development of high standards within the department.
The Trust seeks to appoint a Consultant Anaesthetist with an interest in Neurosurgical Anaesthesia. This is a whole-time position, and the new appointee will share the caseload, facilities, and trainee grade support with the existing consultants. While the main focus is on Neurosurgical theatre requirements, there is potential for the successful candidate to utilize the flexible theatre rota to undertake Neuro IR theatre lists, including thrombectomy services, which can be further explored at interview.
The post is a whole-time position of 10 programmed activities (PAs), offering 8.5 PAs and 1.5 SPA.
The successful candidate will be expected to provide pre-operative assessment, anaesthesia, and follow-up. They will be expected to introduce and apply new techniques as appropriate and share in the general departmental workload, including cover for colleagues where practical.
The appointment is to the Trust, not specific hospitals. The appointee will share clinical responsibilities within the Department of Anaesthesia, including perioperative assessment. They will provide anaesthesia for adult patients across various specialties according to training and experience, develop a team with a strong emphasis on delivering a cross-site service, and work on each site as required.
The role involves adhering to a job plan reviewed annually and prospective on-call duties attracting 1.25 PAs with a 5% uplift due to a 1:10 frequency, including planned weekends for both adult and neonatal to teenage patients. The on-call rota is shared between two hospitals, with site coverage assigned on each date.

Deputise for departmental colleagues during absences due to leave or short-term sickness.
Participate in clinical audits and contribute to regional initiatives, supporting research and audit activities.
Maintain current knowledge of anaesthetic procedures, undertake administrative duties, attend departmental meetings, and support departmental management to ensure high standards and service development within the Clinical Governance framework.
