An opportunity has arisen due to retirement and expansion of services for a Consultant Anaesthetist/Intensivist to join the team at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals. The role involves delivering general anaesthesia at Barnet and Chase Farm Hospitals and working on the 18-bed adult intensive care unit at Barnet Hospital.

The successful candidate will have a CCT in Anaesthesia with a specialty interest in Intensive Care Medicine.

The on-call commitment is one in 12 weekdays, and one in 6 weekends covering critical care.

There is a well-equipped Intensive Care Unit at Barnet Hospital divided into two wards: ITU North (8 beds) and ITU South (10 beds). The Barnet ITU has been paperless for approximately 15 years and offers extensive opportunities for data collection, audit, and research. There is an active teaching program as well as a comprehensive monthly M&M meeting.

Education & Professional Qualifications (Essential)
  • Full GMC registration with a license to practice
  • MB BS or equivalent
  • On GMC Specialist Register via CCT in Anaesthesia (proposed CCT date within six months of interview)
  • CESR or European Community Right
  • FRCA or equivalent
  • Evidence of Intensive Care training up to Level 3 or equivalent experience
Desirable qualifications
  • MD or PhD
  • Outstanding research record
  • FFICM
Experience (Essential)
  • Training and education of undergraduate and postgraduate students, including understanding recent changes in ICU training
Desirable experience
  • Possession of ATLS
  • Possession of ALS/EPLS/APLS certificates
  • Instructor ALS/EPLS/APLS certificates
  • Courses in undergraduate and postgraduate teaching
  • Training the Trainers course
  • Six months pediatric anesthesia experience
