We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant in Adult Psychiatry to work full-time hours for our NHS client based in Bristol, South West England. This vacancy is available on a locum basis for the successful candidate to start immediately for a short-term contract.
What will your responsibilities be?
The Consultant will oversee the medical team providing care to detained inpatients and serve as the Responsible Clinician (RC). They will ensure high-quality mental health care through daily ward reviews, collaborate with Intensive Teams for effective care coordination, and facilitate timely discharges with robust aftercare planning. Responsibilities include preparing reports for Mental Health Act (MHA) Tribunals, attending hearings, and participating in acute care pathway meetings. The Consultant will also contribute to service development, performance monitoring, and strategic initiatives within the Trust while providing visible leadership at the ward level. Additionally, they will participate in the S12 rota for Place of Safety assessments and provide reciprocal cross-cover for the Acute Inpatient Consultant. There is also an opportunity to develop a special clinical interest in line with service needs, with potential research collaboration with the University of Bristol.
