We are offering a part clinical and part research post with the Institute of Psychiatry, focusing on improving health outcomes for women in prison. This role involves reviewing data on short sentences and their risks to women, family life, and long-term health, and identifying research areas that could influence policy and expand sentencing options for women.

Main duties of the job

To provide clinical leadership ensuring high-quality care for residents.

To develop specialist interests aligned with Trust and local service plans.

Teaching and training of nurses and prison staff where appropriate.

Contribute to the development of Health and Justice services through clinical audit and related activities.

Job responsibilities

We seek an enthusiastic Consultant Psychiatrist/Forensic Psychiatrist to lead mental health care at HMP Bronzefield, the largest female prison in Europe. This is a rewarding leadership opportunity in a complex, supportive environment, making a significant difference to women in custody.

  • Forensic experience is not essential: applications from psychiatrists with general adult, community, liaison, or forensic backgrounds are welcome.

Qualifications
  • Relevant professional qualification or ongoing professional development
  • GMC registration with a license to practice at appointment
  • On the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of registration
  • Approved clinician status or ability to achieve within 3 months
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months
  • Management and leadership qualification
  • Higher degree (MSc, LLM, MD, PhD)
  • CCT in forensic psychiatry or equivalent forensic qualification
