Job description

There is an exciting opportunity for a full-time Consultant in Acute Medicine to join the existing team working across WTWA Hospitals.

The Acute Medical and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) team includes 11 consultants with a breadth of specialty knowledge. We are supported by an excellent multidisciplinary team, which includes 3 Advanced Care Practitioners, one consultant nurse, 2 pharmacists, 3 physician associates, occupational and physiotherapists, discharge facilitators, locally employed senior and junior clinical fellows, and rotating doctors in training.

We are keen to attract candidates interested in service development and will support this in post. We are also looking to recruit a colleague who will contribute to the wider hospital, including but not limited to supporting management and training (both undergraduate and postgraduate) activities. This appointment will be made in accordance with the 2003 Consultant Contract Terms and Conditions. The Job Description indicates the main duties of the post, which may be reviewed in light of experience and developments within the service. Any review will be undertaken in conjunction with the post holder.

This is a full-time 10PA post. However, applications for less than full-time work or job shares are also welcomed. 11/12 PAs may also be available by mutual agreement. The successful applicants would join the medical on-call rota, which currently includes 1 in 8 weekends and 1 in 24 weekdays and overnight.

MFT is England's largest NHS Trust with a turnover of £2.8bn and is on a different scale than most other NHS Trusts. We're creating an exceptional integrated health and social care system for the 1 million patients who rely on our services every year.

Bringing together 10 hospitals and community services from across Manchester, Trafford, and beyond, we champion collaborative working and transformation, encouraging our 28,000 workforce to pursue their most ambitious goals. We set standards that other Trusts seek to emulate, so you'll benefit from a scale of opportunity that is nothing short of extraordinary.

We've also created a digitally enabled organisation to improve clinical quality, patient and staff experience, operational effectiveness, and drive research and innovation through the introduction of Hive, our brand-new Electronic Patient Record system which we launched in September 2022.

We're proud to be a major academic Research Centre and Education provider, providing you with a robust infrastructure to encourage and facilitate high-quality research programmes. Furthermore, we're excited to be embarking on our new Green Plan, which will set out how MFT continues to play its part in making healthcare more sustainable. At MFT, we create and foster a culture of inclusion and belonging, providing equal opportunities for career development that are fair, open, and transparent, protecting your health and wellbeing, and shaping the future of our organisation together.
