Job description
Overview

Join the largest acute medical consultant team in the South West and be part of a multi-disciplinary acute medicine team delivering consultant-led acute medical care for all patients presenting to North Bristol NHS Trust. You will be responsible for running and supervising the acute take, SDEC, the enhanced care unit, and AMU. There is job planned time for administration and supporting professional activities, with ample opportunity to engage in quality improvement and service development.

About the Team and Role Details

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative consultant to join the largest acute medical consultant team in the South West at North Bristol NHS Trust. This is a full-time role (10 PAs), but part-time or job-share arrangements are available for the right candidate. LTFT applicants are welcome. With 18 acute medical consultants, the team is leading transformational change in service delivery with patient care and safety at the heart of everything we do. The AMU is the hub of the hospital and the role involves driving timely, safe, and effective care in a busy, high-pressure environment. The AMU includes:

  • Acute Medical Triage area receiving patients directly from the community (40% of medical intake).
  • Enhanced Care Unit with NIV, HFNO and high-level care capabilities.
  • Embedded short-stay function; 40% of patients are discharged directly from AMU; average length of stay ~48 hours.
  • A mature SDEC providing cross-specialty admission avoidance and seeing ~40 patients per day.
  • A separate Acute Frailty Unit run by the frailty team.
