Applications are invited for the full time post of Consultant Histopathologist with an interest in Cardiothoracic Pathology.

This is an exciting and challenging opportunity for a highly motivated individual to be part of a small team delivering tertiary care services with the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC).

The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (CTC) is an innovative and dynamic unit now in its 11th year. It provides a wide range of tertiary cardiothoracic services to the population of Essex and beyond. It is housed in a four storey, 14,000 square metre purpose-built unit with three specialist operating theatres and a hybrid lab. It has more than 100 beds, a dedicated cardiac critical care unit, four catheterisation labs for complex cardiology investigations including electrophysiology, complex CRM device implantation and the 24/7 primary PCI service, which is among the busiest in the UK, day stay facilities and outpatient clinics. There is a 64-slice CT scanner and a MRI scanner in house. Cardiothoracic surgery service includes lung cancer surgery, minimally-invasive CABG, mini-mitral valve, and sutureless aortic valve programmes.

The Essex CTC participates in a range of national and international clinical trials and has developed one of the largest research portfolios in the UK.

Main duties of the job

It is expected that Cardiothoracic Pathologists at the Essex Cardiothoracic will provide specialised assistance to Regional Trusts (Southend Hospital, Mid Essex Hospital and Colchester) and will participate in their MDTs.

The CTC Histopathology department provides the local catchment area of Essex and beyond with a comprehensive range of tertiary histopathology diagnostic services.
