Job overview

The new post holder will be a key member of the RMH SIHMDS team, working together with the other 4 specialist histopathologists (2.5 WTE) who have a special interest in haematopathology, haematology consultants and leads for the other technical disciplines, to ensure the timely production of a fully integrated diagnostic report. The post holder will fill one of three and a half whole time equivalent pathologists within the CMP and provide support to internal RMH and external partners diagnostic service and translational research in the CMP (as required). There will also be opportunities to engage with pathologists from user organisations to develop appropriate sample pathways as well as links for education and research.

Main duties of the job

The appointee will be expected to undertake managerial and organisational duties as required within the CMP to support the established staff within the Unit. The appointee will be expected to support the research undertaken by Units within the CMP by providing pathological interpretation across tumour types.

  • Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists or equivalent qualifications
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC), or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • Applicants that are UK trained, will ALSO be a holder of a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or be within six months of award of CCT by date of interview. Applicants that are non-UK trained will show evidence of equivalence to the UK CCT
  • Demonstrable consultant level experience in the histopathology of haematological malignancies.
  • Higher (Research) Degree (MD)

At The Royal Marsden we have an immune compromised patient population who we must protect as much as we can against the flu virus. Each year, seasonal flu affects thousands of people in the UK. Occurring mainly in winter, it is an infectious respiratory disease capable of producing symptoms ranging from those similar to a common cold, through to very severe or even fatal disease.

The wellbeing of our staff and patients is of the upmost importance to us, and it is the expectation of The Royal Marsden that all patient-facing staff have an annual flu vaccination, provided free of charge by the Trust.
