Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting a part-time Consultant Histopathologist for the Cellular Pathology department, based at Royal Preston Hospital. The post is permanent, with 4 sessions per week and flexible 8am–6pm hours.
No on-call requirement is expected, and responsibilities include running a comprehensive histopathology service and developing cancer-related subspecialties.
We have a vacancy arise for a part-time Consultant post in Cellular Pathology based on 4 session per week. This post will be based be based at Royal Preston Hospital and is a permanent post. The working week will be flexible over a - Monday - Friday between 9.00 - 17:00 The sessions are worked flexibly according to the demands of the service. This would be 16 working hours per week (Monday to Friday), which could be worked flexibly between 8am and 6pm according to service demands and agreement with Head of Department. There will be no expectation of providing on call for this post.
The successful applicant will join our team of consultants and will be required to provide a comprehensive histopathology service. You would not be required to report neuropathology cases.
You will also be required to develop specialist interests to complement the existing specialist Cancer services.
Main duties of the job
You will be expected to co-operate with other members of the Pathology Directorate to ensure effective administrative arrangements are made in the laboratory, which will include:
We are in collaboration discussion with the other 3 trusts in Lancashire and Cumbria including Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust, East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust and Morecambe Bay Hospitals NHS Trust. A central laboratory Hub has been proposed.
Modern Education Centres are based at both Royal Preston and Chorley and South Ribble Hospital sites and offer excellent library and study facilities, including PC/Internet support for staff and students as well as high tech simulation facilities.
All new Consultants are actively encouraged to be research active and supported in every way to carry out research in this trust.
All newly appointed substantive consultants are enrolled on the award-winning Consultant Leadership Programme and as part of that, mentorship is available.
All consultants have annual appraisal with a trained appraiser and are supported with the revalidation process.
