An exciting opportunity in Cornwall for a Consultant Hepatologist to join the Royal Cornwall Hospitals NHS Trust. We are seeking an exceptional Consultant Hepatologist with passion and drive to take your career to the next level in this region. The Trust invites a candidate who is interested in research and can contribute to a large, forward‑thinking Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology.
The Department of Gastroenterology & Hepatology is large, highly developed and innovative. It has seen substantial investment over the last ten years with a significant expansion of all aspects of the service. The hepatology service is delivered by two consultants, one Consultant Nurse and specialist nurses. A community based Hepatitis C program operates in conjunction with the hospital based service and was highly commended in the National Quality & Care Awards in 2014.
Inpatient hepatology is supported by luminal gastroenterologists & hepatologists, with available advice for complex inpatient hepatology cases. An Alcohol Liaison Team was commissioned in April 2015 to aid delivery of brief interventions to prevent alcohol‑related admissions and is available on wards seven days a week. The hospital offers a seven‑day roaming paracentesis service delivered by interventional radiology nurses. The department has developed end of life pathways and achieved IQILS accreditation at level 2. Over the past few years £3.4m has been invested in refurbishing and expanding the endoscopy unit. The department has six rooms on the Royal Cornwall site and one room at the West Cornwall site. A new mobile trans‑nasal endoscopy service has been approved and will be operational in the near future. The endoscopy workforce has grown and includes new consultant and non‑consultant endoscopists. The department has won awards for innovations in green endoscopy, including first UK use of Entonox scrubbing equipment.
