Responsibilities

  • Lead Thrombosis and Haemostasis services, providing multidisciplinary input and outpatient care.
  • Conduct weekly Thrombosis clinic at Whittington and participate in specialist clinics at Royal Free Hospital.
  • Involved in education, clinical governance, audit, and research activities.
  • Participate in the on-call rota and inpatient attending system.
  • Engage in undergraduate and postgraduate training.

Skills

Broad experience in clinical haematology
Experience in managing sickle cell disease and thalassaemia syndromes
Experience in managing complex thrombosis issues
Experience in managing patients with haematological malignancies
Transfusion Experience
Audit and understanding of clinical governance
Good ability with use of IT
Research techniques understanding
Experience in teaching and training

Education

Full and Specialist registration with GMC

Are you a passionate Consultant Haematologist looking to specialise in Thrombosis and Haemostasis while contributing to a dynamic and inclusive team? Whittington Health NHS Trust invites applications for a whole-time Consultant to join our well-established and highly regarded Haematology team.

This is an exciting new post, offering you the opportunity to play a pivotal role in the delivery and development of Thrombosis, Haemostasis, and General Haematology services across both Whittington Health and Royal Free Hospital sites.

Whittington Health is an Integrated Care Organisation serving a richly diverse North London community. We are a leading teaching site for UCL Medical School and known for our excellence in patient care, innovation, and staff development. Our Haematology team also provides nationally recognised services in haemoglobinopathies and delivers level 2a haemato-oncology care.

Job responsibilities

You will be primarily based at Whittington Health, contributing to the delivery of specialist Thrombosis clinics, General Haematology care, and acute inpatient management. The role includes:

  • Leading Thrombosis and Taemostasis services, including multidisciplinary input and outpatient care.
  • Weekly Thrombosis clinic at Whittington and monthly attendance at specialist thrombosis/APS clinic at Royal Free Hospital.
  • Involvement in education, clinical governance, audit, and research activities.
  • Participation in the 1 in 6 on-call rota and the inpatient attending system.

Active involvement in undergraduate and postgraduate training.

Person Specification
Professional Qualifications
  • Full and Specialist registration (and with a licence to practise) with the General Medical Council (GMC) or be eligible for registration within six months of interview.
  • In receipt of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) or equivalent within six months of the date of interview
  • FRCPath or show evidence of equivalent qualification
  • MRCP or show evidence of equivalent qualification
Clinical Experience and Skills
  • Broad experience in clinical haematology
  • Experience in managing sickle cell disease and thalassaemia syndromes
  • Experience in managing complex thrombosis issues
  • Experience in managing patients with haematological malignancies
  • Transfusion Experience
Audit Management & IT
  • Experience of audit and understanding of clinical governance especially as applied to the introduction or development of new techniques
