Qualifications

  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification is essential.
  • MRCP or equivalent qualifications desirable.
  • MBBS/MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full and specialist GMC registration or eligible within 6 months of interview.

Responsibilities

  • Provide expert care across general and malignant Haematology and Haemato-oncology.
  • Participate in 1:4 consultant on-call rota with middle-grade support.
  • Lead and contribute to outpatient clinics, ward rounds, bone marrow lists and MDTs.
  • Offer clinical advice and interpretation of Haematology investigations to colleagues and primary care.
  • Engage in clinical governance, audits and quality improvement initiatives.
  • Support undergraduate and postgraduate teaching and participate in research/clinical trials.
  • Contribute to service development and pathway improvement.

Job description

We're looking for a highly motivated Consultant Haematologist to join our friendly and dynamic department at Kettering General Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, part of the University Hospitals of Northamptonshire Group. You'll work alongside four experienced Consultant Haematologists to deliver comprehensive general and BSH Level 2b Haemato-oncology care, covering a broad spectrum of malignant and non-malignant haematology. This is a replacement post offering the chance to take ownership of specialist interests such as lymphoma, leukaemia, coagulation, or haemostasis. Working alongside four Consultant Haematologists, you will provide consultant-led care across malignant and non-malignant haematology in both inpatient and outpatient settings.

You will work as part of a multidisciplinary team including consultant colleagues, specialist nurses, pharmacists, laboratory staff, allied health professionals and administrative teams.

Main duties of the job
  • Provide expert care across general and malignant Haematology, including Haemato-oncology, coagulation, and transfusion services
  • Participate in the 1:4 consultant on-call rota, with appropriate middle-grade support
  • Lead and contribute to outpatient clinics, ward rounds, bone marrow lists, and the Haematology MDT
  • Offer clinical advice and interpretation of Haematology investigations to medical colleagues across the Trust and in primary care
  • Take an active role in clinical governance, audit, and quality improvement initiatives
  • Support and deliver undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, with opportunities for involvement in research and clinical trials
  • Participate in service development, bringing forward ideas for innovation and pathway improvement

Qualifications – Essential
  • FRCPath or equivalent qualification
  • MRCP or equivalent qualifications
  • MBBS, MBChB or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Full and specialist registration (and a licence to practice) with the GMC (or eligible for registration within 6 months of interview)
Qualifications – Desirable
  • Postgraduate Degree (MSc, MD, PhD or equivalent)
  • Holder of Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT), or within 6 months of award of CCT or equivalent by date of interview
Knowledge / Experience – Essential
  • Ability to offer expert clinical opinion on a range of Haematological conditions
  • Ability to take full and independent responsibility for clinical care of patients
Knowledge / Experience – Desirable
  • Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Haematology
Management Experience – Essential
  • Effective Team worker, valuing the experience and contributing
  • Demonstrable Team Leadership skills and experience
Management Experience – Desirable
  • Understanding and experience of delivering organisational change
Academic Achievements and Research – Desirable
  • Publications in recognised Medicine / Medical Education Journals or Presentations at National Level
  • Research experience relating to quality improvement, Clinical training and experience equivalent to that required for gaining UK CCT in Haematology
  • High level Organisational Skills
  • Communication Skills
