Job description

We are seeking an enthusiastic Consultant Haematologist to join our friendly and expanding team at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital. The post offers a varied role across inpatient, outpatient, laboratory and multidisciplinary services, with opportunities to develop subspecialty interests, contribute to research and teaching, and support ongoing service improvement. The successful candidate will join the consultant on-call rota and work collaboratively across our Eastern and Northern services to deliver high-quality, patient-centred care.

About the Role

Our Haematology service is entering an exciting phase of growth and development, supported by significant Trust investment in facilities, workforce and resources. We are looking for an enthusiastic Consultant Haematologist to join our team and help us continue to deliver excellent, patient-focused care while supporting innovation, research and the development of our specialist services.

The post is principally based at the Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital in Exeter, with each member of the consultant team contributing equally to the Haematology service at North Devon District Hospital, visiting on average 27 times per year. The role includes participation in a 1 in 9 on-call attending rota, a weekly clinic, MDT working, laboratory responsibilities, research and teaching.

The Exeter Haematology Unit is a BCSH Level 3 facility, with Level 1 services delivered from the purpose-built Seamoor day case unit in North Devon. The services operate a joint MDT and serve a combined population of more than 500,000.

There are excellent opportunities to develop clinical subspecialty interests, participate in network and commercial research studies, work collaboratively with the University of Exeter and contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, including the BMBS programme.

Exeter is a vibrant and historic city with excellent road, rail and air links, good local schools and easy access to the outstanding coast and countryside of Devon. Cross-site working also provides the opportunity to work in North Devon, with its coastline, beaches and areas of outstanding natural beauty.

The successful candidate must hold, or be within six months of obtaining, a Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) in Haematology, or equivalent.

Working Pattern: Full time, 10 PAs, including participation in the 1 in 9 on-call attending rota and planned cross-site working at North Devon District Hospital.
