Applicants are invited for a full-time sub-specialty accredited Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeon at the Gynaecology Cancer Centre, Royal London Hospital, Barts Health NHS Trust.

The post holder will join the team of 6 Consultant Gynaecological Oncology Surgeons who are all dedicated, along with the wider Gynaecology Oncology Multidisciplinary Team at Barts Health NHS Trust, to delivering outstanding care for women with gynaecological cancers.

Main duties of the job

It is expected that the post holder will operate with maximal surgical effort for women with advanced ovarian and uterine cancer in line with the ethos of the team and be an experienced robotic surgeon. The post holder will be part of the Women's Precision and Prevention Medicine Service and will have independent experience in managing women with familial and personal history of gynaecological cancer, including appropriate counselling for genetic mutations and risk reduction strategies. The appointee will form part of the gynaecology oncology on-call rota and will participate actively in the running of the busy gynaecological oncology in-patient and out-patient service.

There will be expectation for the post holder to expand their clinical academic portfolio and contribute to the ongoing research output from the department.

Job responsibilities

Consultants will have a continuing responsibility for the care of patients in their charge and for the proper functioning of their departments.

Consultants will undertake administrative duties associated with the care of their patients and the running of their clinics or department. All Consultants are expected to assume responsibility both singly and corporately for the management of the Junior Medical Staff. In particular, they are expected to be responsible for approving and monitoring junior staff rotas and junior staff locum arrangements, where appropriate.

The successful applicant will be expected to participate fully in the medical audit arrangements in the department.

Consultants are also expected to concern themselves with the professional development of their trainees.

All Consultants have a responsibility to contribute to the teaching and assessment of undergraduates and of junior doctors.

Consultants are expected to continue with all aspects of professional development to allow successful appraisal and revalidation

Professional Qualifications and Registration

Essential

  • Colposcopy registration with BSCCP
  • MBBS or MBChB or equivalent
  • MRCOG or equivalent
  • CCT or equivalent
  • Sub-specialty Accreditation in Gynaecological Oncology
  • On GMC Specialist Register or within 6 months of being admitted to GMC Specialist Register

Desirable

  • PhD or other higher degree in relevant subject

Clinical Experience

Essential

  • Experience of management
  • Experience in Gynaecological Cancer Management
  • Experience in ultra-radical surgery for advanced ovarian & uterine cancer and in robotic surgery
  • Evidence of independent experience in managing women with familial and personal history of gynaecological cancer
  • Evidence of working effectively in multi-disciplinary team
  • Evidence of commitment to teaching
