Qualifications

  • Completion of Specialty Training (CST or equivalent) or nearing completion.
  • MRCP (UK) or an equivalent qualification required.
  • Experience in Audit, Teaching, and Undergraduate Teaching.

Responsibilities

  • Participate in the development of Elderly medicine services.
  • Provide medical student education and training of junior staff.
  • Ensure good practice through audits and clinical governance.

Job description

This is a new full time appointment to join the existing 4 Geriatricians

It is a response to the increasing number of admissions of frail elderly.

The job will be a combination of EAU based geriatric medical care and developing the front end service with help of two specialist nurses and A Geriatric Fellow.

The appointee will develop the pathways in and out of the unit to ensure input for elderly patients as early as possible in their acute illness.

The model links with front end admission avoidance services in the county (CECS) and community services from health and social care.

Special interests in any sub- specialty of Geriatric Medicine would be particularly valued and accommodated to compliment other consultant's interests.

This is an exciting opportunity for the appointee to shape the pathway of services for the elderly in South Northamptonshire.

Main duties of the job

o To participate in the future development of Elderly medicine services for the Trust with a particular emphasis on the development of the front end frailty pathway.o To provide input into medical student education for Leicester undergraduates on the diagnosis and management of medical emergencieso To support and provide teaching and training of junior medical staff, post graduate training and nurse training on the unito To participate in the Department of Medicine meetings and have a representative on the Directorate management Boardo To ensure good practice by regular audit and review of incidents with the clinical team and take forward lessons learnto To link in with the directorate clinical governance meetings and contribute to lessons learnt from incidents and complaintso To take part in the on call medical rota
