Join our team as a Consultant General Surgery with an Interest in Colorectal Surgery at Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust.
The Colorectal Service is seeking a replacement Consultant Surgeon with a subspecialty interest to complement the department, focusing on early rectal cancer, advanced pelvic malignancy, colorectal cancer, inflammatory bowel disease, and pelvic floor surgery.
You will join a diverse general surgical department including Colorectal, Upper-GI, Breast, and Vascular Services. The colorectal team comprises nine Consultants, with a tradition of close collaboration with gastroenterology. Responsibilities include providing colorectal and general surgical services across theatre, outpatient, and ward settings.
Minimally invasive techniques such as transanal microsurgery (TEM) and robotic-assisted colorectal surgery are well established within the team. The role involves contributing to both emergency and elective services, with participation in rotas for seven-day services, weekends, and bank holidays. Services are delivered at New Cross Hospital and Cannock Chase Hospital, with opportunities for research and education in the colorectal unit and regionally.
The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust is a large, reputable tertiary and district hospital providing high-quality clinical outcomes across a broad range of services. It employs nearly 10,000 staff and operates over 850 beds at New Cross Hospital, plus additional beds at West Park and Cannock Chase Hospitals.
The role involves practicing minimally invasive colorectal surgery, contributing to emergency and weekend rotas, and participating in services at both hospitals. There are also opportunities to engage in research and teaching. Applicants must demonstrate high competence in acute and elective colorectal surgery and be on or within six months of achieving GMC Specialist Register or CCT/CESR.
Qualifications: GMC Specialist Registration or within 6 months, FRCS. Higher Medical Degree is desirable.
Experience: Equivalent to UK CCST in General Surgery, with demonstrated expertise in the sub-specialty. Experience in pediatric surgical conditions is desirable.
Compliance with DBS checks, sponsorship eligibility, UK registration, and criminal record checks are necessary.
