Consultant Anaesthetist, University Hospital Monklands

Salary Range £111,430 - £148,064 per annum

The successful applicants will contribute to the provision of general anaesthesia within the main theatre and day surgery unit. Out of hours’ work will be for theatre. There is a separate on call rota for Intensive Care Medicine. There will be flexibility to accommodate special interests such as acute pain or paediatrics.

NHS Lanarkshire is Scotland’s third largest health board and has 3 Acute Hospitals – University Hospital Hairmyres, University Hospital Wishaw and University Hospital Monklands. All services are currently working to design and realise new models of care for the replacement University Hospital Monklands which will be Scotland’s flagship digital hospital, to be built in 2030.

University Hospital Monklands is a district general hospital allowing a varied practice and is also host to all major ENT, head and neck, and urology cases for NHS Lanarkshire as well as general surgery, vascular access, dental services. There are a number of regional medical specialties based at University Hospital Monklands including Infectious Diseases, Renal Medicine, and Haematology. The Emergency Department is busy and takes adult and paediatric emergencies, with orthopaedic trauma transferred to the local trauma unit at University Hospital Wishaw, and major trauma transferred to the regional trauma centre in Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Glasgow.

Situated in West Central Scotland, University Hospital Monklands is readily accessed from a wide area, allowing commuting from city, suburban and rural locales.
