Job description

Consultant-General Adult Psychiatry-Inpatient-Salford-MacColl

The post holder will be responsible for providing clinical care to 18 adult inpatients of working age and providing medical leadership to the inpatient ward teams. They will support and contribute to the management and development of ward functioning. The post holder will collaborate with the Home-Based Treatment Team and Care Coordinators from the three Community Mental Health Teams in Salford to facilitate discharge and offer an alternative to inpatient admission.

Main duties of the job
  • Undertake assessments of referrals and admissions to the service.
  • Diagnose and formulate management plans for complex presentations.
  • Manage treatment-resistant and complex cases.
  • Assess and manage risks, including vulnerability, suicide risk, health and safety risks, and risks of harm to others.
  • Prepare reports for Mental Health Review Tribunals and Managers' Hearings, and attend hearings as required.
  • Work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including external partners.
  • Partner with psychiatrists from provider organizations such as Forensic and Rehabilitation Psychiatrists.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification.
  • Fully registered with the GMC with a license to practice at the time of appointment.
  • Included on the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of eligibility.
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within 3 months of appointment.
Skills
  • Excellent clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social approach and broad medical knowledge.

Salary range: £105,504 to £139,882 per annum, pro-rata.
