Job description

Consultant General Adult Psychiatrist - Daisy Ward

The post holder will be expected to provide clinical leadership for the only female ward. The post-holder will be expected:

  1. To manage 18 adult inpatients with a variety of psychiatric diagnoses, many of whom will be detained under a section of the Mental Health Act (MHA).
  2. To conduct assessments, request investigations, and contribute to the formulation of acutely unwell psychiatric inpatients.
  3. To formulate treatment plans and oversee the implementation and evaluation of these treatment plans.
  4. To contribute to management of patient flow with a view to managing bed capacity effectively and avoid or flag up potential delayed transfers of care.
  5. To comply with all legal obligations covering clinical practice, e.g., Mental Health Act and Code of Practice, safeguarding procedures.
  6. To complete relevant paperwork, including maintaining the electronic record and participating in routine outcome monitoring of clinical work.
  7. To teach and supervise medical staff and other professionals in all aspects of psychiatric care.
  8. To participate in the trust-wide daytime consultant psychiatrist second on-call rota for Health Based Place of Safety situated at Chase Farm Hospital (1:32) and the trust-wide on-call rota.
  9. To participate in the daily MDT meeting and other regular ward or team meetings, including staff supervision.
  10. To undertake other duties, as negotiated, that contribute to the good functioning of the clinical team.
  11. To take part in weekly Haringey discharge planning meetings and other regular meetings around patient flow involving locality and system colleagues.
  12. To provide clinical and professional leadership within the post.
