Job Summary

Full‑time Consultant Gastroenterology (general or hepatology). The Consultant will provide high‑quality endoscopy, outpatient and inpatient care, and will supervise junior staff, deliver teaching, audit, and maintain clinical governance.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Provision of a comprehensive district general hospital gastroenterology service including endoscopy, with responsibility for prevention, diagnosis, treatment and proper functioning of the service.
  • Participation in the development of the service in line with national and NICE frameworks.
  • Professional supervision and management of junior medical staff, observing local employment and human resource policies.
  • Carrying out teaching, examination and accreditation duties, contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate and continuing medical education locally and nationally.
  • Engagement in medical audit and other clinical effectiveness activities, fostering improvements in quality and standards through the Trust’s Clinical Governance processes.
  • CPD in job plans; attendance at audit and governance meetings is mandatory.
  • Cover for colleagues’ annual leave and other authorised absences.
  • Compliance with the Trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy, Health and Safety policies, infection control and data protection requirements.
  • Participation in the 1 in 11 Consultant general medical emergency on‑call rota, covering weekday (2000‑0800) and weekend on‑call, with weekday ward rounds and weekend morning and evening rounds.
  • Other duties as may be required from time to time.
Working Hours and On‑Call

Full‑time (40 h per week). The Consultant will undertake a 1 in 11 on‑call rota, covering weekday (2000‑0800) and weekend on‑call, with weekday ward rounds and weekend morning and evening rounds.
