Job description
Overview

Consultant Gastroenterologist position full-time at Frimley Park Hospital with cross-site activity. 17 Consultant team provides Gastroenterology and Hepatology services to approximately 1 million patients in the Buckinghamshire, Berkshire, Hampshire and Surrey areas from the acute sites at Wexham Park (Slough) and Frimley Park (Camberley) and the new elective site at Heatherwood in Ascot.

High‑quality endoscopy services are provided in a 4‑room suite at Frimley, a brand‑new 2‑room unit at Heatherwood and two procedure rooms in Lady Sobell suite (in‑patient and ERCP) and an additional 2 in the new modular unit at Wexham. Services include capsule endoscopy, single‑balloon enterostomy, HALO and EMR therapy for Barrett’s and early esophageal cancers. The post holder will support the Berkshire Bowel Cancer Screening service.

Responsibilities
  • Consultant led ward rounds three times per week with daily board rounds and new/unstable patient reviews.
  • Family discussions, specialty ward reviews and urgent in‑patient endoscopies, admin, referral triage and SPA.
  • Two‑three clinics per week and two‑three endoscopy sessions; electronic triage and MDT participation.
  • Endoscopy and clinic sessions cross‑site at Frimley and Heatherwood.
  • Weekly MDTs – Colo‑rectal, Upper GI, HPB for malignancy, IBD (Biologics and surgical/histology) and general gastroenterology; plus a weekly Grand Round and Journal Club.
Qualifications
  • Interest in advanced endoscopy and bowel cancer screening.
  • Full‑time Consultant Gastroenterology with 10 Programmed Activities (PAs).
  • Experience with cross‑site activity and multidisciplinary teamwork.
