Job description

Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist - Hackney Hoxton Ward

The Trust is seeking a Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist to work in the Forensic Service. This full-time, 10 PA appointment is available due to a departing consultant. The post involves approximately 8 PAs on Hoxton Ward and 2 PAs in Hackney. Interested candidates for part-time or flexible arrangements are encouraged to contact us to discuss options.

The successful candidate will join four existing consultants working across the Low Secure service. The East London area, known for its cultural diversity and socioeconomic challenges, presents significant mental health issues, substance misuse, and offending behaviour in its population.

Main duties of the job

The role involves providing clinical leadership at Wolfson House for Hoxton Ward and overseeing community supervision for a small number of discharged patients.

Clinical Responsibilities:

  • Hold consultant responsibility for approximately 10 patients under the Hackney Community Forensic Team and inpatients on Hoxton Ward.
  • Provide clinical leadership to the Hackney Community Forensic Team and Hoxton Ward.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • MB BS or equivalent medical qualification
  • MRCPsych or equivalent recognized by the Royal College of Psychiatrists
  • Higher degree in medical education, clinical research, or management
  • Additional clinical qualifications
  • Full GMC registration with a licence to practise at the time of appointment
  • On the GMC Specialist Register or within six months of registration
  • Approved clinician status or able to achieve within three months
  • Approved under S12 or able to achieve within three months
  • In good standing with GMC regarding warnings or conditions
Transport
  • Ability to travel within East London and between clinical sites
Clinical Skills, Knowledge, and Experience
  • Understanding of forensic psychiatry
  • Strong clinical skills with a bio-psycho-social approach
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Ability to manage complex and uncertain clinical situations
  • Decision-making based on evidence and experience
  • Ability to meet duties under MHA and MCA
  • Relevant specialist experience within NHS or similar services
