Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist

We are looking to recruit a 1.0 WTE Consultant Forensic Psychiatrist, for a 12 month fixed term locum appointment, to join our multidisciplinary team at Reaside Clinic, Birmingham. The post holder will be the Responsible Clinician for a caseload comprising of male patients in medium secure care and community patients who have been discharged from secure care.

The post holder will provide medical leadership to a multidisciplinary clinical team, manage referrals into the service from a defined geographical catchment area, and maintain good working relationships with secondary care services in that area.

Applicants must have full registration with the GMC, MRCPsych or equivalent, Section 12 (2) approval, approved clinician status and ideally inclusion on the specialist register in forensic psychiatry.

Main duties of the job

You will provide medical leadership within a shared leadership framework in which the contributions of all are valued. You will be the responsible clinician for approximately 14 detained inpatients in medium secure care, and for approximately 10 community patients who have been discharged from secure care.

You will work very closely with the multidisciplinary team and will forge good relationships with secondary care mental health services in a defined catchment area, from which your referrals will mostly come.

You will also be expected to contribute to the bed management, clinical governance and service development processes of the service. This includes working with colleagues from across the Reach Out Provider Collaborative.
