We see over 125,000 patients per annum, 25% of whom are managed in our integrated Paediatric ED. As a regional PCI, vascular and stroke centre as well as a busy trauma unit, you will be guaranteed a rich and varied caseload of acute presentations. A Trust-wide fully integrated EPR, Epic, was launched in June 2022.

Applicants should be on the Specialist Register for Emergency Medicine or within 6 months of award of their CCT/CESR in Emergency Medicine. A subspecialty qualification would be welcome but is not mandatory. Instructor status in ALS/ATLS/APLS is preferable, and in-date provider status is essential.

Main Duties of the Job

The job plan will typically be based on a 10 PA contract, divided into 8 DCC and 2 SPA. The appointee will be based at Frimley Park with opportunities for cross-site working at Wexham Park Hospital. The role involves joining an annualized rota for greater flexibility, covering ED from 0800 to midnight, 7 days a week, with a weekend frequency of 1 in 6 weekends, working either a day or late shift. There are aspirations to expand evening and weekend shifts in line with RCEM workforce guidelines. Duties include leadership, supervision, education, mentoring, leading resuscitation teams, and ED handover board rounds.

Detailed Job Description and Main Responsibilities

Governance and Quality Improvement

Active participation in clinical governance, quality improvement, incident reporting, complaints review, CPD, and evidence-based medicine. The department has dedicated governance and QI leads.

Research

Participation in an active research program, including national portfolio projects and regional studies.

Teaching

Contributing to departmental teaching for various levels of ED doctors, involvement with medical students, and participation in simulation and life-support courses.

Other Duties

Opportunities to take on additional roles, subject to discussion and approval by the Chief of Service.

Person Specification

Qualifications

• FRCEM or equivalent
• On or within 6 months of entry to the UK specialist register for Emergency Medicine
• ALS/ATLS/APLS provider status

Desirable Qualifications

• Instructor status in ALS/ATLS/APLS
• Dual accreditation or subspecialty interest

Experience

• Broad UK emergency medicine experience
• Participation in audit projects and teaching programs
• Level 1 EM US competencies
