Job description
Job responsibilities
  • Work with the current specialty leads to build the initial working patterns and operating procedures for the department to include the EGS wards, operating theatres and ambulatory care
  • Develop ambulatory and alternative provision models to support patient flow
  • Provide an Emergency General Surgery (EGS) service of the highest standards for Cornwall
  • Provide and develop a specialty interest within the realms of children's general surgery, colorectal or upper GI surgery, hepatobiliary or complex endoscopic practice
  • Share responsibility with colleagues for the day to day management of the EGS department including the development of a research portfolio
  • Teaching and training of junior staff and medical students in EGS including developing weekly evidence-based governance and service development
  • Ensure ongoing development via Continuing Medical Education (CME)
  • Fulfill duties of weekly timetable including any out-of-hours
  • Provide patient cover for off-site/absent consultant
  • Engage in some elements of flexible timetabling with cooperation
  • Support colleagues throughout the multidisciplinary team and promote a culture of respect
