The Vacancy

Following recent framework successes in the South, Binnies is seeking Consultant Ecologists to join our growing team based in Redhill and contribute to our national Ecology Team.

You will work on a diverse portfolio of projects, including infrastructure, river restoration, flood, coastal, maritime projects, water utilities, transport, and renewable energy.

One of our key projects is SESRO (South East Strategic Reservoir Option), a 150 million cubic metre reservoir near Abingdon, aiming to create new habitats and increase biodiversity. More info.

Binnies is a registered Ecological (CIEEM) and Landscape Practice (Landscape Institute), holding the IEMA EIA Quality Mark, and sponsors the Association of Environmental Clerk of Works.

We foster an active ecological community of practice, supporting your pathway to chartership, technical and H&S training, and paid memberships of professional institutions.

About the Role
  • Undertaking and managing field surveys.
  • Mentoring junior ecologists.
  • Supporting habitat restoration, mitigation schemes, and preparing management and monitoring plans.
  • Conducting BNG calculations.
  • Preparing ecological reports, plans, and assessments.
  • Managing and presenting ecological data.
  • Serving as Ecological Clerk of Works.

Essential Requirements

Minimum 3 years field experience, with:
  • An ecological/environmental degree
  • Membership or application for CIEEM
  • Experience in habitat and species surveys
  • High-standard ecological report writing
  • Full UK driving licence
  • Willingness to work away from home as needed
Preferred experience includes:
  • Using BNG metrics
  • GIS mapping
  • Protected species licences or FISC levels
  • Consultancy background
