Job description

Consultant Ecologist

RPS, a Tetra Tech company, is seeking a Consultant Ecologist to join our East of England ecology team, based in Norwich or Cambridge. Candidates from Norfolk, Suffolk, and Lincolnshire are preferred, but we are open to remote workers.

About the Team

Our East of England ecology team provides ecological services supporting renewable energy, residential, commercial, and infrastructure projects across the region. We work on some of the largest offshore wind developments in the UK, as well as onshore wind and solar projects, contributing to the country's clean energy goals. We also serve residential and commercial sectors, offering diverse work opportunities.

Responsibilities
  1. Conduct protected species surveys across the East of England.
  2. Perform environmental compliance and monitoring visits, including on Norfolk offshore wind cable routes.
  3. Author ecology reports such as Preliminary Ecological Appraisal, Ecological Impact Assessments, mitigation strategies, and management plans.
  4. Carry out Biodiversity Net Gain assessments, including habitat surveys, condition assessments, and Biodiversity Metric calculations, and prepare planning reports.
  5. Implement site-based mitigation, including acting as Ecological Clerk of Works and managing protected species translocations.
  6. Assist in preparing fee proposals, tenders, and managing project finances.
Candidate Profile
  • Experience or keen interest in ecology surveys for bats, newts, reptiles, badgers, water vole, and otter.
  • Experience as an Ecological Clerk of Works (ECoW) is desirable.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Excellent time management and communication skills.
  • Full UK driving license and willingness to travel regionally, including overnight stays.
Qualifications and Certifications
  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in Ecology or a related field.
  • Eligible for or holding CIEEM membership.
  • Protected species survey licenses (e.g., for great crested newt and bats) are highly desirable.
  • FISC Level 4 qualification is a plus.
