A leading NHS Trust is seeking an ENT Surgeon for its department in Harlow, focusing on comprehensive ENT services, routine surgeries, and trauma management. The candidate will engage effectively with teams across multiple hospitals and contribute proactively to patient care and departmental growth.
We are seeking an ENT Surgeon to provide comprehensive general ENT services at a busy acute trust on the outskirts of London.
The ideal candidate will have experience in general ENT and possess clinical skills that complement the department's needs, including competence in routine ENT surgeries such as Otology, Rhinology, Paediatric ENT, and Head and Neck cancer surgery. Skills in Rhinology and Paediatrics are preferred.
The candidate should collaborate effectively with ENT teams across Mid and South Essex Trust (Broomfield, Southend, and Basildon), share ideas, and promote patient safety and research. Flexibility to cover wider Essex areas may be required.
The on-call commitment is 1:12, operating within a Hub and Spoke model involving Broomfield Hospital (the hub) and four spoke hospitals: Harlow, Basildon & Thurrock, Southend, and Colchester. Princess Alexandra Hospital handles elective inpatient cases and out-of-hours emergencies, while Colchester covers cancer services only. There may also be opportunities to participate in the Elective Surgical Hub at St. Albans starting spring 2025, focusing on high-volume, low-complexity surgeries, especially in Trauma and Orthopaedics and ENT.
The successful candidate must make independent treatment decisions, conduct theatre sessions across a broad range of ENT conditions, and manage challenging patients and their expectations in an acute setting.
Our department is dynamic, comprising motivated consultants and dedicated specialists, committed to growth and responding to community needs. We offer training programs for juniors in ENT and A&E and seek a proactive individual with innovative ideas and a strong work ethic.
The ENT on-call supports the community and manages ENT trauma, primarily in A&E for ambulatory patients. The role involves participation in a 1:12 rota based at Broomfield Hospital. Opportunities exist to work at the new HWE surgical centre from spring 2025, emphasizing high-volume, low-complexity surgeries, especially in Trauma, Orthopaedics, and ENT.
