Job description

Patient-centred care is a core priority, and the Consultant will ensure patients, and their families are meaningfully involved in decisions about treatment, with a clear emphasis on communication, safety, and personalised outcomes.

As part of the departments commitment to continuous improvement, the Consultant will engage in audit, research, teaching and clinical governance, supporting the refinement of neurosurgical pathways and contributing to the overall quality and sustainability of the service. Maintaining GMC specialist registration and active professional development will be essential in delivering a high standard of practice aligned with Trust and national expectations.

*To undertake the full range of activities associated with a neurosurgical cranial emergency on call duty, including the appropriate management of post-take patients

*To undertake the full range of activities associated with Neurovascular service including elective and emergency vascular cases.

*To manage a cohort of general elective neurosurgical patients from the triage and management of referral, through stages of diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation, with appropriate onward referral or discharge as required.

*To engage with and support colleagues to ensure appropriate and timely management of neurosurgical patients within the West Midlands region.

*To deliver appropriate levels of clinical, administrative and surgical activity proportionate with the agreed job plan in line with the specialty activity plan.

*To ensure that patients are involved in decisions about their care and respond to their views.

*To support the ongoing improvement of neurosurgical patient pathways within UHB through the sharing of good practice, undertaking audits and research and participating in governance practices such as incident reporting and investigation.

*To engage with continuous professional development, maintain GMC specialist registration and licence to practice.
