Job summary
Applications are invited for two full-time Consultant Community Paediatrician posts based at University Hospital Llandough Children's Centre and St David's Hospital Children's Centre, joining a well-established, experienced team.
The service operates locality-based, Consultant-led teams and works closely with colleagues in education, social care, CAMHS and the third sector. Clinics are delivered in children's centres, special schools, and community settings.
Cardiff and Vale University Health Board is recognised as a teaching centre of excellence in a wide range of clinical services.
Although these posts are full-time, consideration will be given to applicants who require flexible working arrangements.
Applicants should either be on the Specialist Register or be a Specialist Registrar within six months of their expected date of receipt of a CCT at the time of interview.
You will be able to take advantage of the excellent Consultant contract for Wales. The basic salary range for this post is £110,240 per annum to £160,951 per annum.
Applicants must ensure they provide names and contact details of referees covering at least the last 3 years of their employment/training history in full. In addition, applicants who are currently or have most recently been employed as a substantive Consultant or as a Locum Consultant in post for more than 12 months must also provide the name of their Medical Director as an additional referee.
Main duties of the jobPost holders will work as part of a Consultant-led team to deliver high-quality community paediatric care across Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan. Clinical responsibilities include the assessment and management of children with neurodevelopmental conditions (including autism, ADHD, and global developmental delay), complex disability, and safeguarding concerns.
Work will be carried out across a range of sites, including children's centres, special schools, and other community settings. The role involves active participation in multidisciplinary and multi-agency working, supporting coordinated care through collaboration with education, social care, CAMHS, and third-sector partners.
Each post includes participation in the safeguarding service week rota and contribution to the out-of-hours safeguarding medical rota. The structure and frequency of this rota is currently under review. When not undertaking safeguarding responsibilities, the post holders will contribute to neurodevelopmental assessments and fulfil statutory responsibilities under the Children Act and the Special Educational Needs Code of Practice for Wales.
Additional duties include teaching and supervision of junior medical staff, engagement in clinical governance, quality improvement, and participation in continuing professional development, audit, and service development in line with Health Board and departmental priorities.
