Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, wish to appoint a Consultant Colorectal Surgeon with a special interest in an advanced colorectal cancer. We are looking for a keen, dynamic Consultant willing to integrate with an existing team of 10 colorectal consultants to deliver a first-class service. It is a full-time post consisting of 10 PAs, of which 1.5 are dedicated SPA time. The job plan and SPA entitlement will be formally reviewed after 6 months and adjusted as necessary. The new appointee is expected to have elective and emergency commitments at LUHFT (Aintree and Royal Liverpool Hospitals sites). On call duties are described in detail further on. Applicants must have full GMC registration, entry on the Specialist Register for General Surgery via CCT or CESR (CP) or European Community Rights- proposed CCT/CESR(CP) date must be within 6 months of interview. They should be able to provide evidence of high standards achieved in technical operating, especially colorectal surgery. If successful, you will be joining a well-established unit and will be expected to participate in the development of our future services.

The Department of Colorectal Surgery currently have regular clinical duties on 2 sites of the Trust - Royal Liverpool Hospital (RLH) and Aintree Hospitals (AUH). This is being advertised as a full-time post, but all applications will be considered on merit, including those hoping to work less than full time.

The successful candidate is expected to spend most of their clinical time managing advanced colorectal cancer cases, with a central role in the care of patients with complex pelvic malignancies often requiring multi-visceral resection. They will be supported and encouraged to develop expertise in multi-visceral surgery, working closely with gynae-oncology and uro-oncology teams through active participation in our Complex Pelvic Multidisciplinary Team (MDT).

This role offers a unique opportunity to be at the forefront of innovative pelvic surgery within a leading tertiary referral centre, with strong support for clinical development, academic collaboration, and research engagement.

The successful candidate will have a standard operating day on Saturdays, with appropriate provision for time off during the week to maintain work-life balance and meet job planning requirements. However, recognising the complexity and resource demands of multi-visceral surgery, these cases will not be scheduled for weekends. The candidate will have access to move such cases to appropriate weekday theatre lists to ensure optimal support and patient safety. Candidates currently enrolled in a recognised Pelvic Exenteration Fellowship programme, or those planning to undertake such training prior to commencing the role, will be fully supported. The department is happy to negotiate a flexible start date to accommodate fellowship completion.
