A regional health authority in Derbyshire is seeking an experienced Consultant Clinical Scientist in microbiology. The candidate will lead clinical microbiology services and collaborate with diverse healthcare teams. Key requirements include HCPC registration and relevant pathology fellowship. Applications are invited for a full-time or part-time experienced Consultant Clinical Scientist in microbiology at University Hospitals Derby and Burton.
We are part of a modern laboratory within Derbyshire Pathology, which includes laboratories at Derby, Burton, and Chesterfield, with this role covering Derby and Burton.
Consultant Clinical Scientist applicants must be registered with the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC), have the Fellowship of the Royal College of Pathologists by examination, and hold a certificate of completion of HSST.

You will work collaboratively with our strong clinical, scientific, laboratory, and quality teams to support the clinical lead in further developing the clinical microbiology service and in providing training to junior clinical staff as part of our succession planning.
Your role will be essential in leading, delivering, and developing our busy and expanding services for patient benefit and is key to our succession planning over the next five years.
You will participate in the duty microbiologist rota and provide a Consultant Clinical Advisory Service in Clinical Microbiology for diagnosis, investigation, and treatment of patients. This includes providing guidance on result interpretation and further testing to aid diagnosis and treatment for healthcare staff within the Trust, Mental Health services, community, and ICBs in southern Derbyshire and Staffordshire.
Participation in the out-of-hours rota, ensuring availability of clinical and analytical advice at all times, is required. Currently, this is a 1 in 5 rota shared among the Consultant microbiologists.
