Within the Blood Sciences Directorate, three Consultant Clinical Scientists work as a team led by the Blood Science Clinical Lead. Each acts as the Professional Head of Department at their site, providing cross-cover during leave and liaising with staff and clinical users. The post holder practices autonomously as the single-handed Professional Head of Department for Chemical Pathology at Lincoln and Grantham.

The role involves being a key member of the Blood Sciences Directorate committee, ensuring the delivery of high-quality, responsive 24-hour Chemical Pathology services across Greater Lincolnshire. It includes providing clinical advisory services on diagnosis and treatment to hospital consultants, junior doctors, GPs, and nursing staff within ULTH and NLAG hospitals, as well as to GPs and healthcare workers across the region.

The post requires providing expert advice on all clinical and analytical aspects of Chemical Pathology, including endocrinology and point of care testing. All laboratories operate under UKAS accreditation standards (ISO 15189).

Our partnership, the Humber Health Partnership, serves over one million patients annually, managing a budget of over £1.3 billion. It comprises NLAG and Hull University Teaching Hospitals NHS Trusts, with main hospital sites including Diana Princess of Wales Hospital, Scunthorpe General Hospital, Goole and District Hospital, Hull Royal Infirmary, and Castle Hill Hospital. We are involved in diverse research areas and committed to developing a skilled, inclusive, and caring workforce to deliver excellent patient care.
