Job description

Psychological Services for children and young people in NHS Forth Valley are seeking to employ a Consultant Clinical Psychologist. The service currently employs 1.8WTE Consultant Clinical Psychologists’ and we are seeking to recruit a further Consultant Clinical Psychologist to manage and oversee clinical sub-specialities within the Child & Adolescent Mental Health Service.

The Consultants within the service are supported operationally and strategically by a Head of Psychological Specialities (band 8d) and team leaders for each of the psychological s ub-specialities (band 8b) that they oversee.

We are seeking a candidate that is passionate about evidence based, person centred and collaborative practice, as well as the governance and management of both psychological care and a psychological workforce.

NHS Forth Valley Psychological Services for children and young people are a multi-professional service. We work in both inpatient and community settings and have close links with paediatric services, mental health services and partner agencies. We support children and young people aged from 0to 18 years and their carers/families, and offer a range of highly specialist psychological assessments and interventions, which often includes multi-agency work. We offer multiple therapeutic modalities including: CBT, FBT, Systemic Family Therapy, EMDR, Art Therapy and ACT, which are professionally governed by Psychological Services in NHS Forth Valley.

This post is a great opportunity to be part of a Psychological Services team with a passion for placing the needs of children and young people and their carers at the centre of the care we deliver. As a member of the management team, the post holder will contribute to strategic developments within Psychological Services locally and they will hold an operational management role in relation to Psychological Services staff.

NHS Forth Valley Psychological Services staff receive regular clinical supervision and robust and supportive line management and job planning. As part of job planning, all staff are supported to identify an area of specialist clinical interest or expertise and members of the management team undertake specific induction (including training or CPD in leadership, quality improvement, operational responsibilities and project management) upon appointment. As part of a wider department of Psychological Services, there are also ample opportunities for networking with psychology colleagues in different specialities, including attendance at the Psychological Services Management Group, away days, service wide project work, reflective practice groups and mentoring. We also have a varied in-house programme of clinical CPD and we have very good links with national bodies and close links with PSD Scotland.

Candidates must have a Post Graduate Doctoral level (or equivalent) degree in Clinical Psychology, be registered with the HCPC and have substantial experience of working with children and young people in specialist services. In addition, experience or training in relation to working with children in physical health settings would be advantageous and knowledge and skills in relation to leadership and organisational change would be beneficial.
