Qualifications

Consultant Clinical Geneticist

The North of Scotland Clinical Genetics Team seeks a new Consultant colleague (0.9 WTE) following the recent retirement of a long-serving colleague. The post holder will work with the existing Clinical Genetics Multidisciplinary Team to provide professionally driven, high quality Genetic care to patients and families with inherited disorders across the North of Scotland.

The service covers five Health Board Regions - Grampian, Highland, Orkney, Shetland and the Western Isles, which includes two cities and a vast spectacular geographic area, with total population of around 850,000.

The Clinical Genetics Department comprises a Clinical Team and the Genomics Laboratory, which is run as part of the NHS Scotland Strategic Network for Genomic Medicine. The Department has links with Children’s Services in Aberdeen and Inverness, including Community Child Health and Learning Disability Services, with Maternity Services in Aberdeen and Inverness, Acute Medical and Surgical Services for adults (also based on the Foresterhill Campus), the University of Aberdeen Institutes of Medical Sciences and Applied Health Sciences, on the Foresterhill Campus.

The post holder will be expected to contribute to service improvement, audit, teaching, training, CPD and to support ongoing department research.

Those trained in the UK should have evidence of higher specialist training leading to CCT or be within 6 months of confirmed entry on the GMC Specialist Register from date of interview.
Alternatively, applicants should possess a CESR / CESR (CP).

Applications from doctors with appropriate specialist training and experience who are not listed on the GMC Specialist Register can be considered for a Locum Consultant post (up to 12 months) if no substantive Consultant appointment is made. Whilst in locum employment, an application to obtain a CESR / CESR (CP) and entry onto the Specialist Register can be made.
