Job summary

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust is seeking a Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist to join their dynamic CAMHS team. Job summary

Are you a Child and Adolescent Psychiatrist with a passion for working with children and young people? Are you interested in working in a dynamic and innovative CAMHS team?

This is an exciting opportunity to join one of our well-established, diverse, and supportive CAMHS teams.

Fostering and Adoption Kinship Care Team (FAKCT) is a CAMHS service supporting children and young people's emotional wellbeing with evidence-based therapeutic interventions. It comprises a multidisciplinary team including educational psychologists, child psychotherapists, social workers, systemic family therapists, refugee care specialists, and trainees.

FAKCT is part of the Child Complex Service within the Complex Mental Health Service Line, working closely with local authorities, schools, and voluntary agencies.

Main duties of the job
  1. Provide psychiatric contribution to the multidisciplinary team, including consultation and support.
  2. Attend weekly team meetings and contribute to Assessment Clinics.
  3. Conduct psychiatric assessments, including risk assessments, in various settings.
  4. Participate in Mental Health Act assessments during working hours, if required.
  5. Offer consultation to team members and provide psychiatric input.
  6. Manage a caseload of complex cases, often jointly with colleagues, and prescribe psychopharmacology if appropriate.
  7. Produce accessible psychiatric reports for multiagency use to aid service planning.
  8. Contribute to data collection, audits, QI, and outcome monitoring.
  9. Provide medical and non-medical interventions, join multidisciplinary reviews, and develop care plans.
  10. Participate in senior staff meetings and undertake leadership and service development duties.
About us

The Tavistock and Portman NHS Foundation Trust (T&P) provides CAMHS services to Camden, along with regional and national mental health services. The Education and Training Directorate offers training for a range of professionals, ensuring relevant and empowering courses.

The Trust has three service lines: Camden, Child and Family Unit, and Adult Services. The FAKCT team is under the Child and Family Unit.

There are 30 multidisciplinary teams across the Trust, offering services from pre-birth to age 25, with expertise in various treatment modalities including psychoanalytic psychotherapy, CBT, systemic psychotherapy, and other specialized interventions.

Person Specification
Clinical Skills & Knowledge
  • Strong knowledge of child and adolescent psychiatry
  • Eligible for or within 6 months of obtaining CCT
  • Experience relevant to NHS or similar services
Experience
  • Clinical skills in bio-psycho-social perspectives and broad medical knowledge
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Ability to manage complex and uncertain cases
  • Experience in assessing and treating neurodevelopmental conditions like ADHD and ASC
  • Decision-making based on evidence and team input
  • Ability to meet MHA and MCA duties
  • Experience in postgraduate teaching and training
  • Experience working flexibly with children, families, and team members in community settings
  • Section 12 approval or eligibility
