Our ambition within CAMHS is to support the continued improvement in the mental health and well-being of the children and young people of North Wales. Central to this journey will be the recruitment of additional Psychiatrists who will provide leadership and expertise that complement the skills of a wide range of other experienced CAMHS professionals as part of our rapidly developing service in North Wales.
We are looking for two Consultant Child and Adolescent Psychiatrists with a keen interest in service development and clinical leadership to enhance our focus on seamlessly integrating early intervention and prevention, community services and our highly specialised Tier 4 services.

Main duties of the job
Working with excellent colleagues in CAMHS and other children’s specialties, this is a wonderful opportunity to work in a progressive and expanding service. You will join the North Wales Consultant Psychiatry Peer group which meets monthly in a good humoured and lively forum for peer support and professional development. There is a journal club and psychopharmacology group and a culture of openness and joint planning. The successful candidates will also be a part of our dynamic, friendly and progressive local community based teams, with all the support and training you need to develop your professionally.
Our offer will include:
- Appointment to the amended Welsh Consultant Contract with 10 PA’s
- Opportunities for teaching, education research and audit, including with partnering organisations such as Bangor, Cardiff and Glyndwr Universities where they are currently in the process of developing a new Medical school.
- An interest in clinical leadership will be keenly supported with opportunities to lead quality improvement and innovation.
You will need to be on the Specialist Register for Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, have your CCST or recognised equivalent or be within 6 months of obtaining it at the time of interview.

Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board is the largest health organisation in Wales, providing a full range of primary, community, mental health and acute hospital services for a population of around 676,000 people, across the six counties of North Wales (Anglesey, Gwynedd, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire and Wrexham). Some areas of Mid-Wales, Cheshire and Shropshire are also covered by the Health Board.
The Health Board employs around 16,500 staff and has a budget of around £1.4 billion. It is responsible for the operation of three district general hospitals (Wrexham Maelor Hospital, in Wrexham, Ysbyty Glan Clwyd near Rhyl, and Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor) as well as 22 other acute and community hospitals and a network of over 90 health centres, clinics, community health team bases and mental health units. The Heath Board also coordinates the work of 121 GP practices and NHS services provided by North Wales' Dentists, Opticians and Pharmacies.

Qualifications
Essential criteria
- Registration on GMC Specialist Register
- Specialist Registrar able to take up post within 3 months of completing CCST
- MRCPscych.
- CCT or equivalent (equivalence must be confirmed by GMC by date of AAC)
Skills/Abilities
Essential criteria
- Diagnosis and treatment of mental illness in children and adolescents in a multi-disciplinary team setting
- Demonstrate ability to manage time effectively
Desirable criteria
- Skills in social psychological and behavioural therapies
Experience
Essential criteria
- Experience of working in community CAMHS settings
Knowledge/ Research
Essential Criteria
