This is a substantive post for a Consultant Cellular Pathologist in the Department of Cellular Pathology at Barking, Havering and Redbridge NHS Trust, replacing a retiree. The appointee will share responsibilities with colleagues to provide a comprehensive, efficient, and cost-effective service to the Trust, GPs, and other users.
Applications are invited for one full-time, permanent Consultant position in Histopathology. The department includes eleven Consultant Histopathologists, two honorary consultants, a Clinical Scientist, and a team of four specialty doctors and a pathologists' assistant.
The department is busy, UKAS accredited, and covers nearly all specialties except renal biopsies and pediatric/neonatal pathology. It processes samples from the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre and supports cancer screening programs, serving as a major Cancer Centre for Essex.
We are an improving organization, recently recognized as the most improved Trust in England for A&E performance, with a diverse staff from 146 countries. We operate from King George Hospital and Queen's Hospital, with busy emergency departments, new theatres, and diagnostic centers. An upcoming electronic patient record system will enhance patient care.
The post involves contributing to a culture of audit, quality improvement, and research. The department has excellent immunohistochemistry and molecular testing facilities, with collaborations to ensure access to advanced genomic testing. The candidate must hold GMC registration and FRCPath or equivalent.
Teaching and CPD
All consultants must attend relevant courses and contribute to clinical education. The Trust offers limited financial support for CPD activities and study leave as per policy. Teaching of medical students is not currently part of the department's activities.
