Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist

The advertised post is for a substantive Consultant Cardiothoracic Radiologist at Barts Health NHS Trust which will be one of three new substantive Radiology posts to support the new Community Diagnostic Centre (CDC) for North-East London which is a CDC exemplar supporting Research, Education and Training for the radiographic Team.

We are looking for highly enthusiastic and motivated individuals to join our existing team of 86 radiologists based at the Royal London (RLH) and St Bartholomew’s Hospitals (SBH) who support the existing Imaging service and its active training programme. The post will be based predominantly at St Bartholomew’s Hospital-which is the site of the Barts Heart and Thorax centres and Mile End Hospital (MEH), with commitments also at the Royal London Hospital.

These posts are needed to support the installation of the NAEOTOM Alpha CT scanner at Mile End hospital as a result of the development of the new CDC serving North-East London (NEL). The NAEOTOM Alpha represents a long-term investment in technology, as Photon-Counting CT (PCCT) is a ground-breaking advancement, of particular benefit with regards to Cardiac CT, delivering high resolution imaging and low dose in this patient cohort.

Main duties of the job

1. Continuing responsibility for the care of patients in his/her charge, including all administrative duties associated with patient care.

2. Helping in development and organisation of the services in his / her charge in line with the Trusts’ business plans. Liaison and communication with the

General Manager and Clinical Directors for Imaging at Barts Health NHS Trust will be expected.

3. Development of his / her own interests and specialties within the Imaging service, including active participation in audit programs.

4. Corporate and individual responsibility for the professional management of doctors in training.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

1. To help with the reporting of cross-sectional images performed on the new NAETOM Alpha CT scanner at the CDC

2. To contribute to the high-quality Consultant-led diagnostic imaging service at Barts and The Royal London Hospitals.

3. To contribute to supporting the need for an ILS trained radiologist at the CDC covering the contrast administration in case of a contrast reaction.

4. To contribute to the specialist MDT’s on a roster with subspecialist colleagues.

5. To join the general on-call service 1 in 20 with SPR cover on site.

6. To always adhere to the appropriate clinical and quality standards.

7. To liaise effectively and on a timely basis with colleagues, general practitioners’ community services, and all healthcare agencies.

8. To maintain and promote team and multi-disciplinary work.

9. To participate fully in the management of the Departments and to liaise closely with the respective clinical and academic group director and General Manager.

The successful applicants should have completed training in diagnostic radiology and be within 6 months of their CCT. They must have a specialist interest in chest and cardiac radiology. The appointed candidates will need to be level 3 accredited in cardiac CT by commencement of the post. They will also be required to obtain ILS training and spend a portion of reporting time at Mile End Hospital depending on clinical need

  • MB BS or equivalent
  • FRCR or equivalent
  • CCT (or within 6 months of date of interview) or on specialist register
  • ILS training to be provided locally.
  • MRCP/MRCS
  • BSTI nodule training course

  • Extensive experience in Cross sectional Imaging
