Job description
Overview

The post holder will join a team of surgeons who provide the service in both the pediatric burns center at Birmingham Children's Hospital and adult burn centres at Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham. Joint working includes clinical care, rotas, education, research, audit and governance activities. In addition to burns, the post holder will have the opportunity to do additional plastic surgery subspecialities depending on experience and the need of the adult or pediatric plastic surgery services.

Responsibilities

The post holder will be based at Birmingham Children's Hospital. It is full time 10PA job; however, less than full time is acceptable. The successful applicants would also be expected to participate in a 1:7 on-call rota.

The appointee will join the burn surgery team and will have the opportunity to develop an interest in an area of general plastic surgery and/or laser therapy, along with their commitment to the burns service. It would be expected that the major responsibilities of the posts are to the burns service (paediatric and adult).

There is a regular teaching and audit commitment to the Specialist Trainees on the West Midlands Rotation and the new appointee will be expected to participate in the training of the SpR and junior trainees. The appointee would be expected to take an active interest in conducting research as well as presenting and publishing relevant clinical findings and research results.
