A healthcare provider in England is seeking a Consultant Breast Surgeon with a specialist interest in breast and reconstructive surgery. This full-time locum position involves managing outpatient clinics and surgery within a supportive team. The successful candidate will contribute to patient pathways and service development in a pioneering healthcare environment. Applications are invited for the position of Consultant Breast Surgeon with a specialist interest in breast and reconstructive surgery to join a team of 4 consultant Breast surgeons at West Hertfordshire NHS Trust. The role complements an established team of oncoplastic and reconstructive breast surgeons.
The successful candidate will be part of a team of Specialty Doctors and specialist nurses providing outpatient clinics and surgery. This is a 1-year, full-time locum post across two hospital sites, with plans to recruit a permanent position next year.
The Breast Unit is based at St Albans City Hospital, designed to facilitate clinics, X-ray, breast care nurses, and receptionists working closely together. About 70% of breast operations are performed here, which offers a calm, elective environment.
Working hours are from 8:00 am to 6:00 pm, with some half-days and one late evening per week until 8:30 pm.
The appointee will manage all aspects of breast disease in outpatient settings, including running clinics for new patients, results, post-operative, and follow-up care. Attendance at weekly multidisciplinary meetings is required. Proficiency in oncoplastic breast surgery, including implant-based reconstruction, is essential.
The job plan includes Theatre (2.25 PA), Clinic (3.5 PA), MDM (0.75 PA), Admin (2 PA), SPA (1.5 PA), totaling 10 Programmed Activities. The plan may be adjusted based on departmental and trust needs.
