Job summary
Within the Trust we are part of Surgery Care Group, which includes most surgical specialties.We have a Clinical Director responsible for the Theatres, Anaesthetics and Critical Care directorate (TACC) across the Trust supported by Lead Clinicians for Intensive Care, Pain, Anaesthetics and Theatres.
Surgical services are located principally at two acute hospitals, York and Scarborough.At Scarborough Hospital surgical services are supported by a brand new Urgent Care Centre including both HDU and ITU capacity. The main theatre suite comprises five theatres, in addition to which there is a separate maternity theatre.Elective surgical services at Scarborough currently include: general surgery (including emergencies), trauma, gynaecology, ENT, maxillo-facial, oral surgery, ophthalmologyand urology. We now also have a successful and expanding day unit to support this.
It is envisaged that the post holder will carry out their duties as a consultant in anaesthesia based at either York or Scarborough Hospital. There is a requirement to provide cross site -working in line with current patterns within the department to support robust and sustainable provision of workforce in anaesthesia. Currently, all of the Consultant provides cross-site work including on-call.
The posts are initially contracted for 10 programmed activities per week.
The demands of the Anaesthetic department mean that close and ongoing collaboration with consultant colleagues is required. A degree of mutual two-way flexibility in sessional provision is anticipated.
