Candidates must have FRCA or equivalent, strong clinical skills, and at least a year of UK experience. Consultant Anaesthetist in General Anaesthesia

The department of Anaesthetics are currently looking for 3 Consultant Anaesthetists to join the team.

A total of 80 Consultant Anaesthetists including 7 Locum Consultants currently work for the Trust. Thedepartment also currently employs 1 Associate Specialists, 2 Specialist Grade Anaesthetists, 1 Specialty Doctorand about 30 trainees based in Anaesthesia ranging from CT1-ST7. 8 Senior Clinical Fellows are employed inthe anaesthetic department. There are also trainees from acute medicine, respiratory medicine and emergencymedicine who rotate through training in Intensive care and we train both FY1 and FY2 Doctors from our LocalFoundation School.

There are 10 Anaesthesia Associates working in the department.

Secretarial and administrative support to the Department is provided by 4 Anaesthesia Co-ordinators andtwo secretaries based in critical care.

Main duties of the job

Each of the 3 Consultant General Anaesthetic posts have varied sub-speciality interests such as Vascular,Neurosurgery, UGI, Gynaeoncology, Trauma/Orthopaedics and Pre-assessment.The Consultant Anaesthetist will provide Anaesthetic services at both Trust sites, Hull Royal Infirmary andCastle Hill Hospital.The Consultant Anaesthetist will also provide on call cover for CEPOD Theatres in Hull Royal Infirmary at 1in 24 with prospective cover.

The Consultant will, in conjunction with colleagues:i. Provide theatre cover as below.ii. Provide an Anaesthetic Service in accordance with the agreed timetable and subsequent job plan.iii. Provide 1 in 24 on call cover for CEPOD Theatres in Hull Royal Infirmaryiv. Supervise trainee Anaesthetic staff within the Trust.

Person Specification
Qualifications
  • FRCA (or equivalent)
  • Either on the specialist register CCT/CESR or if currently in a specialist registrar post, he/she is eligible to be registered within 6 months
Fitness To Practise
  • In good standing with the General Medical Council
Language Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
Clinical skills
  • Must be able to demonstrate a high level of training and clinical experience and competence in all anaesthetic techniques relevant to the post
  • Must have worked in the UK for at least 12 months as an anaesthetist
  • ALS, ATLS and APLS Provider
  • SIA ( Special Interest in Anaesthesia) in subspecialities such as Neuro Anaesthesia, vascular anaesthesia, perioperative medicine, Major GI surgery, Trauma/Orthopaedics and Regional Anaesthesia
  • Understanding of current issues in the NHS, and of the responsibilities of a NHS consultant.
  • Attendance at recognised management courses

  • Evidence of completed Audit. Quality improvement projects, research
  • A commitment to continuing AUDIT, QiP and research.
  • Previous experience of supervising research by junior staff.
