Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic, and motivated Senior Pharmacist to join the Liver Pharmacy Team at King's College Hospital as a 9-12 month maternity leave cover.

The Liver Unit at King’s College Hospital is a world-renowned tertiary referral centre for liver transplantation, complex hepatology, viral hepatitis, hepatobiliary surgery, and liver intensive care.

The post holder deputises for the team leader, Liver and Private Patient Services, and acts as the lead for Liver Transplant Services. Responsibilities include providing a highly specialised pharmacy service to the in-patient liver wards and liver theatres, and actively participating in pharmacist-led outpatient clinics. Excellent communication skills are required to provide specialist pharmacy advice to primary and secondary care healthcare professionals and patients.

Main duties of the job

  • Deputise for the Principal Pharmacist, Hepatology
  • Act as a specialist role model and an expert in the medical management within the hepatology care group
  • Lead and manage clinical pharmacy services in the hepatology Care Group in conjunction with the Principal Pharmacist
  • Develop and participate in outpatient clinics to deliver high-quality, cost-effective, and patient-focused pharmaceutical care
  • Act as a pharmacist independent prescriber to optimise patient care within the hepatology Care Group
  • Participate in multidisciplinary ward rounds, promoting high-quality, cost-effective, patient-focused pharmaceutical care
  • Promote safe drug use within the Hepatology Care Group specialties
  • Work with the Associate Chief Pharmacist, Clinical Services, to develop, manage, and support non-medical prescribing within pharmacy and the Trust
  • Provide specialist pharmacist input into the Trust Non-Medical Prescribing Group (NMPG), including managing Patient Group Directions and Written Instructions
  • Develop, implement, and audit local guidelines
  • Supervise and train pharmacy staff at ward level
  • Provide education and training for healthcare professionals within and outside the Trust
  • Handle financial reporting, drug usage and expenditure forecasting, drug budget management, and work on CIPs (cost improvement programs)
  • Participate in practice and clinical research and audit
