Job summary

NHS Western Isles invites applications for the post of Consultant Anaesthetist at Western Isles Hospital in Stornoway. The successful applicant will join four other consultants in the Anaesthetics Department, delivering high‑quality care in a modern Rural General Hospital.

The NHS terms include 10 PAs per week (plus up to 2 EPAs), an 8% availability allowance, and relocation assistance up to £8,000. Applicants must be on the GMC Specialist Register or eligible within 6 months of interview.

Responsibilities

• Work with 4 other consultants in the Anaesthetics Department at Western Isles Hospital, Stornoway.
• Provide anaesthetic services in a modern Rural General Hospital (Plus) with 85 inpatient beds and 16 day surgery beds.
• Adhere to NHS Scotland terms and conditions; 10 PAs per week plus up to 2 EPAs per week; 8% availability allowance; on‑call rota 1:4.

plus Distant Island Allowance £1,461 per annum

NHS Terms and Conditions of the New Consultant Grade (Scotland) 2004 apply. The post is for 10 PAs per week plus up to a maximum of 2 EPAs per week and an 8% availability allowance subject to an agreed job plan. The on‑call rota is 1:4 with prospective cover.
